Graduate Institute of Cooperative Leadership

  • Are basic cooperative principles relevant for decision making by today's cooperative management?
  • Is the cooperative structure being used effectively as an offensive strategic tool?
  • What are the cooperative models of the future?

The Graduate Institute of Cooperative Leadership (GICL) strives to answer these questions and others critical to future success of cooperatives during Summer Institute. By working with emerging leaders from the increasingly sophisticated world of cooperatives, the Summer Institute focuses on filling the executive education void in this specialized field.

The Summer Institute is designed to enable cooperative leaders to acquire and develop new approaches for leading and managing in the changing global marketplace. Summer Institute participants gain knowledge to help their cooperative improve performance. GICL programs also enhance personal career growth.

Drawing from the educational resources at the University of Missouri and from premier cooperative CEO leaders in the nation, the Summer Institute provides a unique mix of research and experiential based learning. GICL programs are recognized for leading edge thinking about cooperatives.

The Summer Institute not only delves into the issues facing today’s cooperatives but also provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge among a diverse group of participants.

"An invaluable network of cooperative colleagues"

In addition to the “rising stars” of the cooperative world, past participants have included cooperative directors, university faculty with a cooperative focus, USDA specialists, and international participants interested in cooperative ventures.
