Media Access Policy

The University of Missouri promotes open access to the ideas and knowledge being discussed by invited guests and members of the university community. A key tool for ensuring an open learning process is the freedom of press access to the forums and workshops that take place on the campus. The policy of the University of Missouri is to allow press access to all public events on campus.

All workshops, speeches, forums, and other events that invite general participation of faculty, staff, students, alumni or the public will be open to press coverage. Ticketed events must allow the press to gain access to report the substance of the event. Where space limitations are severe, press representatives must be allowed to gain access through purchases of tickets or reasonable selection procedures that ensure the public’s access to the substance of the event.

Any use of university space for private forums or speeches must also adhere to this policy. Speakers coming from outside the university should be informed in advance of this policy. Recording of speeches should have prior approval of the speaker. Any deviation from this policy must have the advance approval of the Chancellor.
