2007 KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Julia Judd, Executive Director, SEPA
Julia Judd is the executive director of the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA), a national membership organization that facilitates utility use and integration of solar electricity. In addition to her 6 years at SEPA, Ms. Judd previously worked as a senior associate at ICF International, a leading consulting firm in the areas of energy and environment, where she supported the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with implementation of its ENERGY STAR program. Her career has focused on developing tools to communicate the value of renewable energy and energy efficiency to electric utilities, municipal governments and product manufacturers. Ms. Judd holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Management from Cornell University.

Dean Baumgardner

Dean is responsible for the development and operation of wind energy facilities that support the rural economy. He has more than 20 years of experience in planning and development of renewable energy resources, as well as utility operations in the Midwest. Dean is accredited by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin and Penn State University.
Prior to joining Wind Capital Group, Dean was in charge of business development for WindConnect, an engineering and general contracting subsidiary of Alliant Energy serving the wind industry. WindConnect has been involved with more than 1,800 MW of wind energy across the US. Dean served as project manager for the construction of the 50 MW Mendota Hills Wind Farm located in Lee County Illinois, the first utility-scale wind energy facility in the state. The wind farm features 63 Gamesa 800kW turbines interconnected to Commonwealth Edison utility through more than 60 miles of underground 35 kV cable, a 138 kV substation and 138 kV switchyard.
He has also provided operation and maintenance services to wind farms in Iowa, Kansas and Wisconsin. His experience includes affordable housing, economic development and construction management of electrical substations, transmission and underground electrical distributions systems in high growth and environmentally sensitive areas.
Rodney Bothast PhD
National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center, SIU-Edwardsville
Dr. Rodney Bothast is the Research Director of the NCERC. Dr. Bothast is an internationally recognized authority on fermentation technology and biomass conversions with a specialization in bioprocess and metabolic engineering technologies for lower cost biofuel and value added co-product production. Prior to his role at the NCERC, Dr. Bothast spent over 30 years as a microbiologist and as the research leader of the fermentation biochemistry research group at the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research, a part of the USDA ARS in Peoria, Illinois.
Dr. Bothast has a well known reputation for fostering collaboration between private industry, academia and governmental laboratories. He received his BS degree in Animal Science from Ohio State University, his MS and PhD in Food Microbiology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Bothast is well known for leading efforts to provide industry with experimental results to guide agricultural and processing improvements having authored or co-authored well over 200 publications. He received the "Award of Excellence" at the 18th International Fuel Ethanol Workshop for outstanding technical achievement in 2002, was elected Fellow of the Society for Industrial Microbiology in 2001 and was elected Director of the Society of Industrial Microbiology in 2003. Dr. Bothast oversees the Client research trials and self directed or collaborative research at the NCERC.

Art Boyt
Crowder College, Neosho, MO
Crowder College has achieved worldwide recognition for its innovative Alternative Energy program, under the direction of Art Boyt. Crowder designed and built the first solar-powered vehicle to successfully complete a coast-to-coast journey across the U.S. in 1984. Since then, Crowder has continued to distinguish itself in world and national solar energy competitions, most recently the Solar Decathlon in Washington D.C., where the Solar House entry from Crowder was selected as the "People’s Choice" and placed 6th overall in the competition. Crowder was the only community college in the competition, and competed against some of the most prestigious universities in the nation. This award-winning house is now located on the Crowder campus. Coming attractions in alternative energy will include a new wind powered electrical generator and a new Crowder College entry in the next Solar Decathlon.

Brad Klein

Brad Klein is an Environmental Law Fellow working on a broad range of environmental litigation and policy issues. Mr. Klein served as a law clerk for Judge Emmet Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and worked as a law fellow at the Environmental Law Institute. Before attending law school, he worked as an environmental engineer at the CH2M Hill consulting firm and, while in law school, he was a law intern with the U.S. Department of Justice, Natural Resources Defense Council, Environmental Defense and Conservation International. J.D., New York University School of Law, 2003; B.S., Chemical Engineering, Washington University, 1998.

A partner at RDG Planning and Design in Des Moines, Kevin Nordmeyer specializes in sustainable design. His expertise has lead to his positions as chair of the United States Green Building Council–Iowa Chapter, a board member of the Iowa Environmental Council and the Center on Sustainable Communities and an architecture faculty member at Iowa State University. Bob Ramlow
Wisconsin Focus on Energy Project
Bob Ramlow has been involved in the renewable energy business for over 25 years. He has been involved in sales, design, maintenance, and manufacturing of solar energy systems. He is the lead solar thermal instructor for the Midwest Renewable Energy Association and has taught workshops and classes throughout the United States. He currently serves as the solar thermal technical lead for the Wisconsin Focus on Energy Program and has recently published the book Solar Water Heating — A Comprehensive Guide to Solar Water & Space Heating Systems. He lives in a zero energy home near Amherst, Wisconsin.

Erick Roberts
Public Works, Springfield, MO
Mr. Roberts' Public Works Department has partnered with Springfield City Utilities to bring about the completion of Springfield's Noble Hill Landfill Renewable Energy Center, a landfill gas project that began generating 3.2 megawatts of electricity in May 2006. In addition to his work as an engineer for the city of Springfield, Mr. Roberts serves as president of the Missouri Waste Control Coalition.

Mr. Wood joined the Missouri Public Service Commission (MoPSC) Staff in December of 2000 as the manager of the Natural Gas Department. He was promoted to the manager of the agency's newly formed Energy Department in 2002 and was recently promoted to Director of the agency's Utility Operations Division with responsibilities over Missouri's regulated natural gas, electric, telecommunications, water, and sewer utilities and manufactured housing manufacturers and dealers. He was recently the Chairman of the MoPSC's Task Forces on Natural Gas Commodity Prices and Long Term Energy Affordability.
Prior to coming to the MoPSC, Mr. Wood was a consulting engineer with Black & Veatch Architects / Engineers in Kansas City. He has worked extensively on the design of energy generation and delivery infrastructure. Mr. Wood graduated Cum Laude in 1987 with a baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
