VÍctor Fowler Calzada

Victor Fowler CalzadaVíctor Fowler Calzada is one of the most influential poets and intellectuals writing in Cuba today. The author of ten books of poetry and five books of essays, he is the winner of several of Cuba's top literary awards: National Critics Award for La maldición (1998); Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) Essay Prize for Rupturas y homenajes (1997); the National Critics Award for Historias del cuerpo (2002); the UNEAC Poetry Prize for El maquinista de Auschwitz (2005); the Nicolás Guillén Poetry Prize for La obligación de expresar (2007); and the Alejo Carpentier Essay Prize for Caminos corporales y de escritura (2012). He also worked as Director of Publications at the San Antonio de los Baños International School of Film and Television and was a member of the editorial board of the 2011 Gale Cengage Encyclopedia of Cuba.
