Corporate Governance - especially the effectiveness of the board of directors - can be improved by increasing cross-disciplinary research. This conference brings together those studying the topic and engaged in the field, from a wide range of experiences, to discuss and thereby enhance this research. Increased attention on a board’s ability to manage risks, (Enron failure, subprime crisis) makes this work vital. Our meetings will particularly focus on those risks of a disruptive or transformational nature. These risks includes “technology”, not only of the information kind, but also the impact of new products (new patents) on originating firms and their competitors, and significant economic crises fueled by new technologies such as the subprime crisis. Each has a potential for opening new opportunities for firms and for destroying existing ways of doing business.
