Come join us for fun activities, games, stories and learning stations that will accommodate learning about trees. A connection to how we use trees and how trees help us will be demonstrated, along with resources to design your own "tree house" for creative play. Appropriate math, science, and literacy examples will be explored, including lots of hands-on real science and math activities that are easy to set up in home or school settings. (SHCP, PAT, CD, CR, LEC, IWC, FAC, PDL, L1, L2, L3, L4, LIT, MAT, SCI, IT, PRE, K)

103. Adolescents: Adults under Construction
Rhodanne Schiller

Can a teen parent successfully? Yes, they can, but reaching and teaching pregnant and parenting teens is challenging. This presentation offers proven strategies for successful recruitment, teaching strategies, working with extended family, and collaboration with community partners. A short presentation is followed by a facilitated discussion. Handouts are provided. (PAT, TP, CGD, FAC, L3, L4, S&E, IT)
104. Consequences That Teach Responsibility: Learn the Five Levels of Defiance and How to Respond Effectively to Each
Jill Molli

After Jill Molli's dynamic presentation on Conscious Discipline, you will feel energized and motivated to welcome the diversity of individuals that walk through your classroom door! Learn how to assess and manage your own "emotional brain" as well as help foster emotional intelligence in your students. Consequences alone work with connected children who already possess the necessary communication skills. Jill will be discussing how to replace control with "connectedness" and domination with "structure" in your classroom. She will share the key ingredient for successful problem-solving classrooms including the adult and child responsibilities needed to make it work. (SCHP, PAT, CC, CD, IWC, L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, S&E, PRE, K, PRI)
105. Frustration Solution: A Unique Approach Using American Sign Language in the Early Years
Josephine Fritts and Steven Fritts

This presentation will demonstrate how using American Sign Language in the early years can facilitate language acquisition. This is an interactive presentation in which participants will learn functional sign language. Participants are encouraged to think about what signs they would like to learn to utilize in their classrooms and be prepared to have fun. (PAT, CC, CD, R, CR, CGD, LEC, IWC, PPD, L1, LIT, S&E, IT, PRE)
106. Missouri's Quality Rating System (QRS): Coming to a Program Near You!
Amber Sparks and Terri Foulkes

Missouri is joining at least 30 other states in developing a Quality Rating System (QRS) for early childhood and school-age/after-school programs. Missouri's QRS will provide a method for parents to evaluate and select high quality programs, create an accountability mechanism for policymakers and funding organizations, and provide specific feedback for programs to develop continuous quality improvement plans. (CC, A, R, PPD, L4, IT, PRE)
107. Talking, Drawing and Writing in the Preschool Classroom
Erin Baker

We all have a writing area set up in our classrooms, but writing with preschoolers can be so much more. Come and learn how to open the door to real writing through storytelling and detailed drawing. Watch as your students take their drawings and add letters and words to write stories that communicate what they know and what is important to them. (CR, LEC, IWC, COA, L3, LIT, PRE)
108. Movin' and Groovin' in the Preschool Classroom
Willy Wood

What if there were a single "magic bullet" that would (1) improve the physical health of your students, (2) reduce their stress (and yours!), (3) help them to better pay attention, (4) improve their self-discipline, (5) help them to learn at an accelerated rate, (6) prepare them for higher academic achievement when they enter school, and (7) reduce the chances that they will experience learning disorders during their school years? Well, that magic bullet exists - it's called movement! In this action-packed presentation, Willy, an expert on the human brain and effective teaching practices, will share with you the incredible benefits of movement and will give you tips for easily incorporating movement into your daily routine. Wear your tennis shoes and comfortable clothing! (LEC, PDL, PRE, K, PRI)
109. Resiliency Rocks - "A New Dance to an Old Tune"
Janet Frost

We will help teachers and caregivers learn how to build resiliency within themselves, the children they care for, and the environments in which they work and play. In doing so, they will gain an understanding of how to prevent and address challenging behaviors in preschool-age children. (CC, CR, CGD, LEC, IWC, COA, L5, S&E, PRE)
110. Learning with Nature
Julie Rose and Tina Reeble

This interactive presentation will emphasize the need for children to have consistent time outdoors with an interested, caring adult. The group will discuss some of the common barriers to preschool and elementary children's ability to create positive connections with the natural world and what parents and educators can do to counteract them. Discover engaging and practical hands-on ideas that can be infused throughout all areas of the curriculum to support the nature-child connection. This workshop will also provide a multitude of resource ideas to help you with both outdoor and indoor classrooms. (SHCP, PAT, CD, A, CR, LEC, L4, L5, LIT, MAT, SCI, PDL, S&E, IT, PRE, K, PRI)
