1000. Let's Get Messy with Science
Ronda Chesney

Come to this presentation ready to have a hands-on science experience. Physical knowledge science will be defined and ideas and activities will be presented so each participant can go home with ideas to use in their classrooms on Monday.
(PC, CR, CGD, LEC, IWC, PPD, L3, L4, SCI, PRE, K, PRI)
1001. Beyond the CD - Music and Movement in the Classroom
Vickie Sowers

Need to beef up your music/movement experiences? Come and explore activities that go beyond the song on the CD! This is an interactive, hands-on opportunity to go "beyond the CD" and gather some new ideas! (PC, LEC, IWC, COA, L4, LIT, S&E, PRE)
1002. Family Involvement in ECE: The Power of Three
Carol Lohkamp and Sherry Wilson

Research has shown that parents have a vital role in their child's school experiences - particularly in Early Childhood Education. This presentation will explore the goals and purposes for designing effective parent involvement activities, help participants to develop an idea list for suggested parent involvement activities and teach participants how to harness the "Power of Three". (SCHP, FAC, L2, S&E, PRE)
1003. Sounds, Sounds, Sounds! Encouraging Children's Awareness of Phonemes
Connie Wilkinson

Come prepared to make noise! In this presentation you will learn strategies and techniques which encourage and enable children to be aware of, explore, experiment with and actively engage in activities which involve the sounds in your classroom. We will explore environmental sounds, "talk" in the classroom, rhyming and alliteration, and the phonemic awareness properties of poems and the importance of their use in your classroom. We will explore an awareness of sounds through music and song, fingerplays and other activities which you can easily incorporate into your classroom each day. A brief discussion of phonemic awareness and the different ways that children develop this awareness will take place, but the majority of this presentation will be spent exploring a large variety of ideas which you can take back and use immediately in your classroom to encourage and further facilitate phonemic awareness in your young learners! (CD, PC, CR, CGD, HSN, LEC, COA, FAC, L3, LIT, PRE)
1004. Traveling the Road (Sometimes Rocky, Sometimes Hilly) From Project Construct Institute to Implementation
Linda Clark

This presentation is a discussion/question and answer approach to addressing those "roadblocks" to Project Construct implementations. Bring questions, concerns, ideas and let's get a plan! (PC, CR, LEC, IWC, PPD, PDL, L1, L2, L3, L4, S&E, PRE, K, PRI)
1005. Using Children's Interest to Develop Curriculum
Judi Estes

Participants will explore strategies for identifying children's interests and providing learning opportunities to support the topic investigation, while assessing learning and adjusting curriculum opportunities in the process. Examples will be provided of how this evolving journey will offer opportunities for children, parents, and teacher to be co-researchers. (PC, CR, LEC, IWC, COA, PPD, FAC, L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, LIT, MAT, SCI, PDL, S&E, PRE, K, PRI)
Pre-Conference Session II
