The scientific program reflects the diverse interests found in the branch, and should be attractive to both student and researchers. There will be sessions on crop, urban and green pest management, biological control, arthropod biology and ecology, invasive species, industry opportunities and much more. Currently, the symposia include:
- Ecology and Impact of Spiders in Terrestrial Ecosystems
- Contributions Towards Understanding the Impact and Strategies for the Changing Sunflower Insect Pest Complex from Texas to Canada
- Opportunities for Entomologists in Industry (working title)
- Green Technology and Urban Pest Management
- Invasive Insect Management: Are We Making Any Progress?
- More Biological Control Please: Extension and Outreach Efforts to Increase Awareness and Appreciation of Natural Enemies
- Other symposia to be decided
There will also be student competition sessions featured on the morning of the first full day. We hope to have many contributed presentations and posters as well - the deadline for all paper and poster submission is Friday, February 6th, 2009.
Student Paper/Poster Competition
NCB will be offering more student awards at this meeting than ever before. We expanded the categories and the awards to include undergraduates, MS and PhD student sections with cash awards of $300, $200 and $100 for the top three finishers in each section.
Session Moderators and Student Competition Judges Needed
Volunteers are needed to moderate sessions and judge student competitions. Contact our program co-chairs (see information below) if you are willing to serve in either capacity. Graduate students and post-doctoral associates are encouraged to volunteer.
