Russell S. Hanson


Russell chairs the Institutes and is the primary trainer for the Winter Institute, Course 1 – Introduction to Hazardous Waste Management: Basics; and the Summer Institute, Course 2 – Introduction to Hazardous Waste Management: Intermediate. He also provides primary administrative support for the Institutes and is the editor of the Institute course materials.

Russell brings more than 30 years of hazardous waste management experience to his position as the Environmental Management Officer in the Department of Environmental Health and Safety at the University of Missouri – Columbia (MU EHS). He is a member of the executive team responsible for the continued development and maintenance of the Environmental Management Program at MU. His duties include the review and evaluation of federal and state regulations, the preparation of policies and procedures, and the development and management of information technology resources.

Russell is also an adjunct instructor in the MU College of Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He provides guest lectures on hazardous waste management and hazardous materials management for MU courses as well as presentations for professional conferences.


Dale L. Brown


Dale is the primary trainer for the Winter Institute, Compliance with DOT Regulations: Training, Testing and Certification; and the Summer Institute, Advanced Hazardous Waste Management. He also provides administrative and technical support for the Institutes.

A senior environmental protection specialist at Allied Signal Aerospace Co. in Kansas City, Missouri, Dale is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager with the Institute of Hazardous Materials Managers and a Registered Environmental Assessor with the California State EPA. He is also listed in the "Who's Who Environmental Registry." He is experienced in many areas of hazardous waste management and has spent more than 1,000 hours in the classroom, training hazardous waste operators, supervisors, remediation site workers, and emergency responders.


Brent S. Mattox


Brent is a trainer for the Summer Institute, Course 2 – Introduction to Hazardous Waste Management: Intermediate. He also provides technical support for the Summer Institute.

Brent is certified in the comprehensive practice of industrial hygiene by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, and is registered as a sanitarian/environmental health specialist with the National Environmental Health Association. In addition to performing consulting work covering a wide variety of industrial hygiene issues, Brent has worked directly with state agencies to develop environmental and occupational health regulations. Formerly on the industrial hygiene staff at MU EHS, Brent is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with Envirotest, LTD, Houston, Texas.
