13th Annual
Hazardous Waste Management
Winter Institute

January 11 – 15, 2010 • Columbia, Missouri

Winter Institute Overview

The Hazardous Waste Management Winter Institute features two complete courses and a regulatory update modeled after the Summer Institute. As regulations and requirements became more voluminous, greater detail was added to the highly successful course titled "Introduction to Hazardous Waste Management." Consequently, the pace increased and the amount of information contained in the course was more than could be adequately absorbed by new environmental health and safety employees. Based on attendee comments, a more introductory course designed to impart the basic concepts, authorities, and practices in hazardous waste management was developed. The introductory course combined with DOT training allows the attendee to better prepare for on-the-job experience/training to be received at their company before proceeding to the next stage of more advanced topics in the field.

The two sessions of the Institute are:

SESSION I: Course 1 – Introduction to Hazardous Waste Management: Basics
Russell S. Hanson

January 11 – January 13, 2010

This section is for new employees who want a good general understanding of the authorities, intent, and basic procedures for managing hazardous waste. The subjects are introduced and discussed at a slower pace with numerous examples and class discussion to ensure understanding and to impart how to apply the knowledge in a practical manner. The program schedule details the subjects covered and the session concludes with a course review and regulatory update.
