The Mizzou Advantage

MU’s longstanding culture of collaboration encourages faculty to partner with like-minded researchers from other fields. The Mizzou Advantage initiative builds on this rich history in four deep-seated areas of strength:

  • Food for the Future: the culture, economics and production of healthy, affordable food
  • Media of the Future: new ways to communicate, educate and market
  • One Health/One Medicine: health solutions and the convergence of human/animal medicine
  • Sustainable Energy: sustainable energy development, distribution and education

MU has long been trusted as a leader in these areas, with faculty and staff producing ground-breaking discoveries every day. As a model land-grant institution, Mizzou is committed to making university research broadly available. The Mizzou Advantage initiative subsidizes seed research to establish preliminary results, needed to attract external funding agencies and other partnerships. Having the right collaborators and financial support in place also brings crucial research outcomes to the forefront faster. Because solutions don’t care about fields of study, the initiative remove barriers to connect researchers, industry and others–enhancing education and research.

The initiative also sponsors high-impact, interactive conferences to share research outcomes and attract experts from around the globe bringing them to MU and taking MU to the world. This mission is fulfilled thanks in part to the MU Conference Office, dedicated to making visitors to the University feel welcome and to showcase all that the University has to offer. The office provides services at no charge for awarded proposals involving conferences.

We believe in higher education and the power of ideas to change the world.
