4-H Congress
University of Missouri - Columbia was host to the 60th Annual State 4-H Congress event June 1 - 3, 2005. This conference brought in more than 280 4-H youth, volunteers, and chaperones to our campus.

To kick things off, the 2004-2005 State 4-H Council loaded into their temporary homes at the residence halls for the week on Tuesday, May 31st, and began to prepare for the arrival of the delegates on Wednesday.

Once the 4-H Congress delegates arrived, they kept a busy schedule. On Wednesday, they got things started with an opening session and breakouts involving things such as leather crafting, secrets to backyard BBQs, Operation Military Kids and more; then they danced the night away on Lowry Mall. Plenty of good times were had the next day during their breakout sessions, recreational activities, and (you guessed it. . .) another night of dancing! Once the votes were in, they wrapped things up on Friday, and at their closing assembly they installed the 2005-2006 State 4-H Council.

I think you could say a good time was had by all at the conference this year! The 61st Annual 4-H State Congress will be held May 31 - June 2, 2006 at the University of Missouri - Columbia. This conference was coordinated by Lorie Bousquet.

MNEA Leadership Conference
Members of the Missouri National Education Association (MNEA) gathered to learn more about how they can become leaders in their association and help others learn more about the MNEA. This annual event was held July 26 - 29, 2005 at the Holiday Inn Select Executive Center. This conference was coordinated by Lorie Bousquet.

Plant Biochemistry: Genomics and Beyond: Frontiers in Plant Biology
The new Life Sciences Building on the University of Missouri - Columbia was the site of the 2005 Plant Biochemistry: Genomics and Beyond: Frontiers in Plant Biology conference. Held April 27-30, 2005 the symposium brought attendees from across the USA as well as several international locations. The three day conference covered such topics as Post-Genomics Frontiers in Plant Biology - Genomics and Beyond, Plant Development - Plants Interacting with their environment, Metabolomics and Engineering - Ecological and Evolutionary Genomics so that fellow students of the Plant Science area could work together to solve problems through their direct plant research. Within the 30 presentations on the above topics, the symposium also included a poster session to display research findings and a Student/ Speaker banquet where students were given the chance to talk one on one with the presenters.

May 24-26, 2006 will find the Symposium meeting again here on campus at the Life Sciences Center. More information can be found at the Interdisciplinary Plant Group website at www.plantgroup.org. This conference was coordinated by Jamie Schieber.

Missouri Youth Leadership Forum

This year's Missouri Youth Leadership Forum sponsored by the Governor's Council on Disabilities was another success! The conference was held July 24-27, 2005 at the University of Missouri - Columbia campus for 30 high school students from across the state. The students were provided a variety of activities throughout the 4 day conference. From a Field Trip to Jefferson City, to small group meetings at Memorial Union, the students were able to bond and enjoy making new friends. One new highlight this year was on Monday evening. The students were taken on a tour of the new Student Recreation Complex and invited to participate in a Wheelchair Basketball game. Throughout the week, the students enjoyed making new friends, learning about leadership skills and experiencing life on a college campus for a few days. This conference was coordinated by Cindy Hazelrigg.
